What the Halloween? 🎃💀

Witches 🧙🏼, vampires 🧛, ghosts 👻 — oh my! 😱

When I first moved to Spain, I was so curious to see how holidays here would compare to back home in the U.S. Would Halloween still have that same spooky charm — or would it feel completely different? Turns out, it’s surprisingly similar… with just a few fun twists (and maybe a few extra scares 😳).

Spooky Season at School
The students were so excited to dress up and decorate the classrooms. Families even brought in spooky decorations, and for the last two weeks of October, the school basically turned into a mini haunted house — pumpkins, witches, and haunted houses galore. If it was Halloween-themed, they were crafting it! ✂️🕸️

On the big day, the cutest sign was hung up for each class to take photos in front of. Most of the kids went classic with vampires, ghosts, and witches — but there were a few brave Batmans, Spider-Mans, and Supermans in the mix. 🦇🕷️

My favorite part? Every class learned a Halloween song to sing and dance to! At the end of
the day, all the classes came together to perform for each other, and it was absolutely adorable. I loved seeing how into it they all were — they crushed it! 👏
And, of course, no celebration is complete without snacks… especially when it’s cake. 🍰
Teachers, Pirates, and a Haunted House (Oh My!)

The teachers definitely got in on the fun too — we all dressed up as pirates (Rrrr 🏴☠️) and went out for a little lunch break. Chinese food + pirate costumes = 10/10 combo.
The older students joined in as well! While most didn’t dress up, they organized Halloween games for the younger kids, who rotated through each activity. Some of the older ones even built a full-on haunted house in a few classrooms 🏚️ — and it was actually scary.
I’m not a haunted house girlie, but I put on my brave face and went in with a few other teachers. Between the jump scares, loud noises, and creepy surprises

around every corner, I’ll admit — they nailed it. 👏😅
It was a long (and super fun) day! That night, the school even hosted a sleepover for the kids with more activities — since trick-or-treating isn’t a huge thing here, that’s probably the next best way to celebrate. A few students said they were going out to trick-or-treat, but it definitely wasn’t the main event.
Adulting, But Make It Spooky

Halloween in Spain isn’t just for the kids! Stores were filled with decorations, and plenty of adults were ready to celebrate too.
That week, I went to a Halloween-themed pub trivia night — and while I didn’t know all the answers, I was proud to get the Ted Bundy question right 😅. We were in first place until the final round… then dropped to 3rd or 4th. No free drinks, but still a blast! 🍻
And since Halloween landed on a Friday, I got double use out of my pirate costume and went to a friend’s Halloween party (friends I met on my Pyrenees trip — go watch that vlog!). Everyone was dressed up, there was good food, drinks, music, and of course, lots of laughs. I may have stayed out a bit too late, but that’s how you know it was a good night! 🥳
Final Thoughts

Overall, Halloween in Spain was such a fun experience. It felt familiar yet had its own special twists — from spooky student crafts to late-night costume parties. There’s just something magical about celebrating a holiday in a whole new country.
If this is how Spain does Halloween, I can’t wait to see how the rest of the holidays unfold. Stay tuned — because if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that Spain knows how to celebrate! 🎉
